Ideally suited for use in the classroom or for homework, Essential Learning about New Zealand Society: Culture and Change covers the topics listed in the Summary of Essential Learning about New Zealand Society in the Social Studies Curriculum that relate to the strands of Culture and Heritage, Time, Continuity and Change and Social Organisation. Both text and activities have been designed to meet many of the Achievement Objectives at Level 5.
Together with the companion volume, Essential Learning about New Zealand Society: Places and Resources, this book provides students at Years 9 and 10 with the opportunity to develop their knowledge and understanding about New Zealand society.
Workbook Approach
Designed so that students can write their answers on the pages, this user-friendly workbook is packed full of information, resources and activities. Students will encounter and consider a range of important issues that face all of us who live in New Zealand, as social studies teacher, Mrs Boyd, shares the contents of her special trunk. They will also develop and practise many of the Essential Skills required in social studies.
Topics include: family history and traditions, Maori and European relations, the Treaty of Waitangi, famous New Zealand events and people, ethnicity, leaders and national and cultural identity.
